The Video Platform Provides Users Authority to Limit Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a new feature that enables them to lessen the quantity of AI-made content appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the platform revealed that it currently hosts more than 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

The update is undergoing trials over the coming weeks before a widespread release. This advancement coincides with a rise in AI-generated material, spurred by new AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

It has been noted that almost a tenth of the quickest rising content creators on a competing service exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A considerable share of this content is deemed low-quality AI content, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is often nonsensical or surreal.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers enjoy content produced via AI tools, including digital art to science explainers, and we aim to provide users the ability to adjust the amount of that, depending on their own choices,” stated a spokesperson.

AI on the Platform

TikTok announced that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its app labeled as artificially created. In total, in excess of 100 million videos are added to the service each day, making AI content a limited percentage of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be in a position to decrease or raise the amount of AI-generated videos they watch by accessing the topic control option in the application and choosing AI-made media. Further subjects that can already be modified under the setting include current affairs, fashion, beauty, and dance.

AI Disclosure Rules

TikTok’s rules mandate users to tag lifelike AI-made content, and it bans dangerous fake videos of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any realistic artificial content that is without a tag can be deleted under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the app will henceforth attach an “AI-made” label to content produced via its built-in AI features, or identified by an cross-platform project for recognizing content made by AI. This step is designed to help prevent users from attempting to circumvent the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is also introducing a $2 million awareness program for experts and organizations to produce learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will assist educational bodies specializing in training computer science.

Platform Protection

The video-sharing app has justified its moderation strategy, during discussion over plans to cut jobs for hundreds of content moderators in the UK. The company is planning to cut hundreds of positions in its trust and safety department in London, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists expressing worry that humans are being replaced by machine-led review.

A senior executive explained that people-led review would still have a role, but AI can protect employees by removing the most graphic content before it has to be seen by humans. The company reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content reviewed by human moderators over the previous year due to intervention by its AI tools.

It is vital to combine people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is really helping us operate efficiently.”
